WAGEC works both on the frontlines of crisis and in the corridors of power, advocating alongside women and communities for urgent action on gender-based violence, homelessness and systemic disadvantage.

We work alongside the people our systems are failing every day. Decades of that work and listening to survivors has shown us exactly where the barriers are and where policy falls short.
That knowledge actively shapes the programs we run and the reforms we call for. This is how we turn frontline insights into meaningful advocacy at the highest levels.
At WAGEC, our advocacy is deeply practical, collaborative and evidence-informed. Using an intersectional feminist lens, we focus on changing systems that perpetuate inequality, while responding to the very real harms they create. Here is what that looks like in practice:
We work to ensure the experiences and priorities of women, trans and gender-diverse people, and children shape decisions about the systems and services that affect their lives.
We amplify the knowledge and insights of our frontline team of caseworkers, ensuring they inform policy, advocacy and decisions about the systems and services people rely on.
We build campaigns that activate our extensive supporter and stakeholder network to demand change to public policy and cultural and societal norms.
We work with specialist services, community organisations, advocates and sector leaders to build collective power and strengthen shared calls for structural change.
We call for long-term investment across prevention, crisis response, and recovery, directing funding to the people, programs and infrastructure that is needed most.
We use data, research and evaluation to identify systemic barriers, demonstrate what works and build a stronger case for policy and practice reform.
Challenge the inequality, attitudes and systems that drive gender-based violence.
Increase access to secure, affordable housing so that safety and dignity do not depend on income or postcode.
Improve how domestic and family violence services respond, coordinate and support long-term healing and recovery.
Create fairer and more culturally responsive justice, child safety and social service systems that work for all.
Ensure policies and services are shaped by those most affected so they are more relevant, effective and accountable.
Invest in frontline services, recovery and prevention, including the people and infrastructure behind them.
No one can end gender-based violence alone. Lasting change requires us to act across all levels, from governments to services and communities, from businesses to individuals — and from the frontlines, back.
