Community group programs

Group programs for current or former clients, and those connected to WAGEC. These programs are not open to the general public, but form a key part of our holistic and trauma-informed case management and support work.

Our approach

Our community group programs are spaces where people can connect with us, with each other, and with their broader community.

We design each session around the specific needs and interests of the people taking part. That means we listen, we adapt, and we keep showing up, because that’s what meeting people where they are is all about.

Each program offers a mix of activities focused on:

  • Wellbeing and social connection: reducing isolation and building community
  • Sharing information and resources: helping people access what they need
  • Connecting to local support: linking people with other services in their area

Women in touch

A weekly group program for women, trans and gender-diverse people who are current or former WAGEC clients, mentees, or otherwise connected to our work.

Run four times a year during school terms, this program was developed in collaboration with Burwood Council and offers a regular, welcoming space to connect and access useful information and a sense of community beyond a service setting

Nourish and Flourish

Our popular community lunch program, hosted in collaboration with our Access mentoring program. These events bring together WAGEC clients to share a meal and take part in art therapy sessions, led by a volunteer art therapist.

The food is prepared by mentees in the Access program, who are building real employment skills through supported work experience in the kitchen. Made possible by a dedicated group of volunteers, supporting both the kitchen and the lunch itself.

Looking ahead

Community programs are a growing part of how WAGEC works alongside clients and the broader community. We’re always exploring what meaningful, sustained connection looks like, and what it makes possible for the people we work with.

If you have a question about how we work with community groups, or you’d like to know more, please get in touch with us.

WAGEC acknowledges the traditional owners of country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
