Volunteering at WAGEC

Joining WAGEC’s Volunteer Collective is a meaningful way to contribute your skills and experience to our community, participate in trainings and events, and connect with like-minded individuals passionate about creating change.

Whether you're looking to take on a regular role, support when your schedule allows, or raise awareness in your networks, there is a place for you in the Volunteer Collective.

BECOMING A VOLUNTEER

The Volunteer Collective is made up of six pillars. During your onboarding process, you will have the opportunity to decide which pillars best suit your skills, interests, and availability. Scroll down to learn more about the pillars of the Collective.

All volunteers must:

⭐ Be aged 18+ and based in NSW

⭐ Undergo screening, including providing a Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check

⭐ Participate in volunteer induction and trainings, varying by role

Please note that most of our volunteering opportunities occur during the hours of 9am-4pm Monday-Friday. The Volunteer Collective does not include student placements. For student placement related inquiries, please contact students@wagec.org.au.

WAGEC is a child-safe organisation, committed to the safety, well-being, and empowerment of all children who we engage with in our services and community. We have a whole organisation approach to upholding children's rights and striving to prevent all forms of harm, abuse and neglect for children and young people.

Skilled Volunteers allow WAGEC to offer valuable wellbeing and educational opportunities for women and children.

COREVOLUNTEERS

Taking on key supportive roles across WAGEC, Core Volunteers are essential for ensuring safer futures for women and families.

⭐ Assigned a regular volunteer shift
⭐ Part of an on-site WAGEC team
⭐ Commit a minimum of 3-months to the role

WORKPLACEVOLUNTEERS

Groups of Workplace Volunteers support WAGEC as part of their collaboration with the organisation.

VOLUNTEERAMBASSADORS

Volunteer Ambassadors are passionate about ending gender-based violence and actively advocate for change within their communities.

Participating in volunteer-led programs across WAGEC, Program Volunteers are crucial to offering wraparound support to families.

CASUALVOLUNTEERS

Assisting on an as-needed basis, Casual Volunteers support the ever-evolving nature of WAGEC’s work.

We have a a range of ways to get involved as a team, including through refuge Working Bees, off-site activations, skilled clinics, hampers, and donation drives. WHY VOLUNTEER AT THE WALK

Volunteering is a meaningful way to support women and children in crisis while connecting with a passionate and values-aligned community.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Walk for WAGEC takes place on Sunday 13 September 2026 at Centennial Park, Sydney.

Volunteer roles include registration support, event stalls, course marshals, clean-up crew, cheer squads and event support.

Volunteers will receive refreshments and opportunities to connect throughout the day.

WHO CAN VOLUNTEER

We welcome volunteers aged 18 and over who are passionate about supporting women and children impacted by violence.

All volunteers will need a Working with Children Check, National Police Check and Photo ID. If you do not currently hold a WWCC, we would encourage you to start the application process now.

WHAT'S INVOLVED

Volunteer inductions will take place virtually before the event.

Volunteers will work alongside WAGEC staff to help create a safe, welcoming and empowering event experience for all participants.
