CEO Update: July

Hi WAGEC Community,

I am writing to you from the lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation and want to acknowledge that this land was, is and always will be Aboriginal land.

I hope you are keeping safe and healthy during our current COVID-19 lockdowns. As an essential service, WAGEC has and will continue to support women and children both in community and across our crisis accommodation sites. I want to remind community that COVID-19 restrictions do not apply to those experiencing domestic and family violence and/or homelessness with NSW Health permitting a person to leave to seek public services including domestic violence support, emergency assistance or to escape harm. From our experience of 2020 lockdowns, WAGEC is expecting an increase in both demand for our services and the severity of violence throughout community. Our staff will continue to work with women and families in crisis to keep them safe.

I would also like to express my sincere thanks to all the many generous donors who have supported WAGEC this past financial year. You have shown us an abundance of generosity through fundraising, volunteering, material aid and financial support. Whether it be through volunteering, a weekly donation, providing material aid, holding a fundraising event or walking for WAGEC, your support allows us to build safe futures for women and families. It takes a community to transform lives and create social change and we could not do what we do without your contribution.

Stay safe everyone!

Sincerely,

Helen
