Lina's Story

By WAGEC

Published on December 26, 2021

We know it's been a tough year for everyone. It has been especially challenging for the women and families living in WAGEC’s crisis shelters. After what has been a turbulent year, the festive period can often add to feelings of stress, financial struggle and isolation.

Lina*, mum of two 5- and 8-year-old girls who is currently living in one of WAGEC’s shelters, told us what the festive period is like for her family.

“This time of year is always the hardest both financially and emotionally. Financially because I want my kids to enjoy their school holidays and open presents on Christmas day. Emotionally because I wish we had our own home to have their school friends over and a table to eat Christmas lunch around. But although it’s hard, I feel better knowing my kids and I are safe with a roof over our heads at WAGEC.”

Thank you to everyone who has donated to support families like Lina's who are living in our crisis refuges this festive period.
