WAGEC is on the move!

Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) Redfern shopfront is on the move.

After nearly a decade of working out of our small terrace on Redfern Street, where we doubled the size of our workforce and exponentially grew the scope of our services, we are moving around the corner and into a bigger space at 36-38 George Street, Redfern.

With demand for our crisis services growing by the day and our increased work in advocacy and gender-based violence prevention, WAGEC’s new space on George Street marks beginning of a new chapter in our 44-year long history of creating safe futures for women and families.

After we saw the increased numbers that 1000 women came to the Redfern space last year and the impacts of Covid on the community, we knew it was time for a new and bigger space. An inclusive, feminist and empowering space where our team can not only address domestic violence and homelessness at the time of crisis but also address the underlying drivers of violence within the community.

This Spring we will begin to pack our boxes and move into the George Street space. More than ever, we need your support. We have estimated that we need to raise an additional 30K to cover the costs of the move in and fit out.

For those who have helped support the move already, we can’t thank you enough. Together we can create a trauma informed, welcoming and safe space for our community.

Will you join us for the next chapter of WAGEC’s journey?
