Meet Amanda

Introduce yourself! Who are you and how did you hear about WAGEC?

Hi! I'm Amanda. I first heard about WAGEC when I was working at For The People, a brand studio here in Sydney. I helped work on the early strategy for the rebrand of WAGEC, and while we were interviewing staff I was really struck by the organisation's mission - women helping women - and how amazing the people running the organisation were.

What does community mean to you?

Community to me is a group of people working on a mission that is bigger than any one person could tackle on their own.

What strengths did you bring to the WAGEC community? How did you offer support?

Once I knew WAGEC were looking for supplies, I helped a friend who had extra protective equipment donate it to WAGEC. I also am fortunate to be able to work from home during this time, so I also set up a fundraising page and my girlfriends and I (many of whom are For The People alumni) all donated when we had virtual 'coffee' together. I mentioned that to another amazing woman, Annabel, who then set up careforacoffee. So - I think really my strength was just helping connect needs, amazing women, and wanting to help!

What is something you are grateful for amidst these uncertain times?

Great question. I'm really thankful for my friends and family. Everyone has good days and bad days and people you love to share those lows and highs makes them better. And second, it might sound trite but I have been especially grateful for technology. I can't imagine doing all of this isolation without the ability to call friends, look up information, or just put on a really happy tune.
